image March 14, 1982: Princess Diana arrives at a Hector Berlioz Music concert at Royal Albert Hall. The royal couple were at Royal Albert Hall in London for a performance of Hector Berlioz’s ”Requiem.” They were expecting their first child in June 1982.

Diana wore the German designed Escada tie with matching blazer and belt when she visited St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington to see her new-born baby nephew Louis Frederick, Viscount Althorp, son of her brother, Charles Spencer and his first wife, Victoria Lockwood.  The tie went up for auction in June 2013.

The tie, which had an estimate of between £2,000 and £3,000, was being sold with an original photograph showing the Princess wearing it on her hospital visit.
image She also wore a matching black jacket and belt by the same German designer Escada with gold elephants around each cuff.

Reeman Dansie Auctioneers of Colchester sold the tie at auction for £3,800 on June 18, 2013.  They said at the time, “Diana wore it very publicly.”image
