THE MONTPELIER PLANTATION
Diana, Princess of Wales, stayed here with the young princes in 1992 – just one of many discerning travellers to have found peace in a hotel infused with old-style Caribbean charm. Eighty per cent of guests are British, and the country house tone has been sustained by a long line of resident golden labradors.
Montpelier has contemporary touches too, including a one-room spa offering massages and scrubs, and public areas enlivened by the colour-charged work of Canadian artist Kirk Mechar.
A highlight of the property is a glorious blue mosaic-patterned 60 foot swimming pool with views of Mount Nevis.
