AUSTRALIAN ROYAL TOUR 1988: GOOLWA – THE SIGNAL POINT TOURISM CENTRE, THE STEAMRANGER TRAIN’ & THE PADDLEBOAT ‘PS MUNDOO’

January 29, 1988: Prince Charles & Princess Diana take a ride in a vintage steam train along the coast & also on a paddle steam boat along the Murray River during the Royal visit to Australia for the Bicentenary celebrations.

In what was an extremely hot day, The Prince and Princess opened the Signal Point Visitor Information Centre, took a ride on the SteamRanger at the Victor Harbour Railway and embarked on the paddleboat ‘PS Mundoo’ for a ride on the Murray River.

The Signal Point Visitor Information Centre is an interpretative display on the River Murray & Darling Basin System providing history, paddle steamer information, aboriginal culture, and environmental issues. Diana also visited the Cottage Home Development for the Elderly in Goolwa shown in the last photo.
